RunLBL! Half Marathon and 10kSaturday October 28, 201708:00 Central Time StartGrand Rivers, KY & LBL National Recreation Area
RunLBL! Half Marathon and 10k take place on the roads. But before you concern yourself that you are not a road runner, please re-consider. These roads take you into the wonderful woods of LBL. It's like being on a trail without the trip hazards.
The course starts by the incomparable shoreline of Kentucky Lake amidst the signature lighthouse and sailboats of Lighthouse Landing resort, and proceeds to Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area. The section on Kentucky Lake Scenic Drive is just that... Scenic views of the lake. From there runners use paved bike paths and small paved, and sometimes gravel (not the big clunky kind that hurts your feet) roads on their journey down to Moss Creek Campsite beside the lake. Run a little loop and you're back on the bike path, and trace yourself back to the finish at Grand Rivers Tourism office. This completes the 13.1 half marathon.
The 10k travels about 1.5 miles on KY Lake Scenic Drive, before the turnaround to return to Grand Rivers for the finish.
This is not just an out-and-back course with a lot of vehicle traffic. We close the roads except for the main road running through LBL. (a .5 mile section)
Aid stations abound. 6 of them on the course. (2 for the 10k). They contain water, SWORD hydration drink, Coke, bananas and other snacks.
Chip timing, and rapid results.
Sweet amenities include: Half Marathon --Long sleeve tech shirts, a runner's cap, drawstring bag, and all finishers receive a custom medallion.
10k -- L/S tech shirts, bag, and all finishers receive a custom medallion.
Age group awards in 10yr categories. 3 deep.
Post race food: will consist of grilled hamburgers, hot dogs, and other fun stuff. Of course there will be veggie options. And something we haven't been able to take advantage of at the March LBL trail runs... the Ice Cream place is open just a block from the finish.
